The science behind the combination revealed

As opposed to standard antiviral medication, Synergy’s combination adopts a multifaceted approach that enables the immune system to target and eliminate the herpes virus at different levels in order to eradicate it. The primary action is to improve the body’s natural immune system response.  The ingredients stabilize and normalize hormone levels, whilst also boosting the immune system functions and enabling the production of T Cells and macrophages specifically designed to target the herpes virus.  The ingredients do not elevate liver enzyme levels and cause any degree of toxicity in the system.  There are no noted side effects from the products themselves, the only effects are from the virus being disrupted and dying off which may see a clearing like minor rash or red bumps usually at the area where the viral activity was most prominent.

The treatment comprises of five core ingredients:

Unique Amino Formula: The principal ingredient of Synergy’s combination treatment is our amino acid-based formula. Two very rare amino acids are applied. Studies have shown that the immune system is able to generate the production of T Cells that then spread around the entire nervous system. T Cells have been found to be integral for the treatment of the herpes viral cells within both the sacral ganglion as well as the trigeminal ganglion.

Lysine: Lysine is an essential amino acid that works in two ways to fight HSV 1 and 2. Firstly, studies have shown that it may help with blocking the reproduction of the herpes virus by reducing the intake of available arginine to the virus. Secondly, it makes it possible for the immune system to detect the existing herpes cells, in doing so the antibodies and T Cells can then work towards breaking down the viral cells.

Astragalus:  TFor more than 2000 years, Chinese medicine has valued Astragalus for its adaptogenic properties and role in assisting the  immune system through the activation of macrophages, which can assist with combating the HSV infection. Macrophages play a central role in controlling replication of the HSV virus within the neural ganglia (nerve cells) by engulfing viral pathogens.

Rhodiola: Rhodiola rosea is a powerful adaptogenic herb, research has demonstrated it can strengthen the immune system while restoring normal body functions. An adaptogen helps the human body resist the harmful effects of chemical, physical, and environmental stress. It may assist in normalizing the nervous system function and in doing so may prevent the production of viral antigens.

Tribulus: Tribulus terrestris is another herb that works to increase the potency of Rhodiola, by strengthening the endocrine system. The roots, leaves, and flowers of Tribulus are used in traditional Chinese and Indian medicine.  Tribulus is commonly used in traditional medicine to assist with a boost to energy and endurance.

Synergy encourages the importance of zinc for the combination. 25% of the world’s population have a zinc deficiency. Zinc is an essential mineral that plays an important role in strengthening the immune system. Deficiency of zinc can negatively affect the production of macrophages, white blood cells, T and B cells that fight disease-causing pathogens.

Treating fatigue and immune deficiencies

Synergy’s combination of ingredients is effective not only against HSV 1 and 2, but is also an ideal health treatment package especially for those with fatigue and immune compromised conditions. The treatment benefits those who suffer from fatigue and an increased frequency of flu and colds. It is also an effective remedy for those who wish to look younger and be at their physical best.

The formula comprises of a powerful ingredient combination. It boosts the immune system by using Astragalus – a traditional Chinese herb, which is an immunostimulant that triggers macrophages to fight against viruses and bacteria. Astragalus is also known for its anti-ageing properties, which slows cellular ageing and reverses cell damage.

Rhodiola, an adaptogenic herb, helps increase energy levels by normalising neurotransmitters in the central nervous system. Rhodiola roots help the body adapt well to stress, thereby reducing its negative effects. Rhodiola is also used to treat depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue, and heart problems.

To amplify the effectiveness of Rhodiola, Tribulus is used to improve physical performance. Being rich in phytochemicals (substances that fight disease-causing virus or bacteria), Tribulus boosts testosterone levels, which are known to increase stamina and strength.

Studies show that Lysine supplementation helps support a healthy immune system. Lysine is an essential amino acid, which improves cardiovascular function and reduces blood pressure. Insufficient lysine can result in fatigue, irritability, poor concentration, and anaemia.

The combination of amino acids that we have used in this formula is the most important part of our treatment package. We have selected certain amino acids that help reduce inflammation, boost immunity, and promote the healing of internal wounds. These amino acids repair cell damage and oxidation caused by free radicals, which is the key to boosting immunity and fighting diseases.

How to lead a healthy lifestyle

No two individuals are the same, so there is no one healthcare solution for everyone. Your physician is the best person to recommend appropriate routines to follow, based on your medical history and circumstances.

We provide only general guidelines in this section that can help optimize your health and well being. This information does not replace any advice or guidance provided by your general practitioner.  Care needs to be taken to take into account any other recommendations and medications advised by your Doctor. If you have any concerns or questions about your health, you should always consult with a physician or other health-care professional.

Exercise: There are many benefits from regular exercise including:

  • Fitness: Exercise helps you maintain healthy body weight. Exercise is essential in building a healthy and strong nervous system, immune system and creating an environment where your well being is best placed to gain the fullest benefits from the treatment.
  • More energy: Exercise increases energy levels and combats chronic fatigue.
  • Boosted immunity: Moderate exercise can strengthen the immune system by reducing inflammation and increasing the production of white blood cells.
  • Chronic illnesses prevention: Regular exercise is one of the best defenses against many chronic diseases including heart disease, certain cancers, and obesity.
  • Strengthened nervous system: Exercise is known to promote blood flow to the brain, which in turn delivers essential nutrients and oxygen. Studies also show that exercise helps generate new brain cells while improving cognition. As certain brain hormones are stimulated through exercise, there are added benefits of improved memory and concentration.

Nutrition: It is important to assess your diet. A balanced meal that includes fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains provides necessary nutrients for the body to function at its optimum.

High levels of acidity are linked to greater susceptibility to viral infections and illnesses. You can increase alkaline foods intake with fruits, legumes and vegetables.

Saturated fats are also linked to inflammation, which can weaken the immune system. Deep-fried foods and alcohol are best avoided.

Weight control: Obesity increases vulnerability to diseases. Excess weight for your height and age can result in a state of chronic inflammation. Surplus body fat secretes harmful hormones into your system creating imbalances. To achieve an ideal body weight, focusing on food intake and exercise is important.

Adequate sleep: Sleep deprivation can reduce the body’s ability to heal and repair itself. Sleep deprivation also leads to weight gain, which further worsens inflammation in the body. Deep sleep helps restore damaged cells while encouraging immune system repair.

Stress avoidance: Too much stress can have negative health effects. Excessive stress harms the immune system, causing the body to be in a state of constant alertness, which depletes energy. As a result, our immune system also functions at a sub-optimal level, increasing the chances of catching viral infections. Managing stress through a combination of exercise, meditation, yoga or other proven methods is crucial to the overall well being.

Eating Health Wise

If you are healthy and fit, you do not need to follow any particular diet. However, reducing high arginine based foods will be a big advantage.  Also having a more alkaline based diet is very beneficial when combined with Synergy’s treatment.

We do recommend avoiding Arginine-rich foods because this amino acid is known to encourage the reproduction of HSV 1 and 2 and stimulate viral activity.  The following foods contain high levels of Arginine and are know to be triggers for viral outbreaks and cold sores:

Grains, Hazel Nuts, Brazil Nuts, Peanuts, Walnuts, Almonds, Cocoa powder, Peanut butter, Sesame seeds, Cashews, Carol Powder, Oatmeal rolled, Raisins, Chocolate, Gelatin, Wheatgerm, Pineapples, Oranges, Mandarins, Onions, Soybeans, Pistachios, Squash, Puffed Oats, Chestnuts, Dates, Pumpkin seeds, Macadamia Nuts, Popcorn, Grapes Grape juice, Turkey.

In addition to this for the fruits it’s grapes, raisins, oranges, mandarins, elderberries and grapefruit. With the vegetables try and limit the onions, rutabagas, cassava and yams (sweet potatoes).  Meats are okay even though they have a high level of arginine they have not been found to stimulate the viral reproduction.  Only turkey is the exception and should be limited.

Grain breads, multigrain breads and oatmeal or porridge are also problematic because of the high arginine levels. When you look at foods like multigrain or brown bread it’s a better quality of wheat they use and more of the whole grains and so this has the higher arginine content.  The cheaper wheat such as white bread and dough the less arginine it would have.  Things like lasagna or pizza for example are still wheat but because they use a cheap form of wheat it doesn’t have the same arginine content and so is a safer option to avoid stimulating the virus.

High levels of acidity, as discussed earlier, can increase the risk of viral infections. We suggest increasing alkaline levels in the body by consuming raw coconut products, and green leafy vegetables such as lettuce, kale, and spinach. You can also add other vegetables, fruits, lean meat, rice, and fish to help achieve an alkaline balance.

The following is best limited when applying an alkaline diet: processed foods and meats, sugar, dairy products (if lactose intolerant), and foods high in saturated fats such as anything deep fried.

Boost Selenium intake: Selenium is a mineral that has vital roles in boosting immunity, thyroid hormone metabolism, reproduction, DNA synthesis, and protection from oxidative damage and infection.

With HSV 1 and 2 infections, the absorption of selenium may be reduced. As selenium is critical to a strong immune system, increasing its intake during a viral infection is beneficial. You may not need a selenium supplement if your diet is balanced and has plenty of fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins.

Some selenium-rich foods that are: eggs, spinach, mushrooms, macaroni, white pasta, egg noodles, milk, cottage cheese, non-fat yoghurt, fish, liver, chicken, pork, beef and lamb.

Factors that interfere with the treatment

Smoking, excess alcohol, and some prescription medications can affect the treatment.

If you are taking any prescription medication, please check with us before commencing our treatment.

Most herbal and natural supplements can be taken simultaneously with Synergy’s treatment. However Oregano Oil, Olive Leaf Extract can interfere with the efficacy of the treatment. Please refer to the Olive Leaf Extract and Oregano Oil sections of this page for further information.  Colloidal Silver is an effective way in which to remove the heavy metals which studies have noted the virus relies on.  Do ensure that between taking Synergy’s combination and consuming Colloidal Silver 2 – 4 hours is allocated because of the detoxifying effect it can have.

Additional Supplements

At Synergy, we believe in a holistic approach to healthcare, so we consider every possible factor that may influence an individual’s overall well being.

We have compiled the following information in response to the numerous inquiries we receive on what supplements are helpful or possibly counterproductive. This information is presented solely as a guide. It is not intended to replace or substitute medical advice provided by your general practitioner.

Arginine

Arginine or L-Arginine is a conditionally essential amino acid, and generally, the human body makes enough of it. This amino acid stimulates the production of insulin, growth hormone and other substances.

The body converts arginine into nitric oxide, which some studies indicate opens up blood vessels wider for improved blood flow, particularly within the heart. However, there is lack of evidence currently concerning long-term arginine use and its effect on heart health.

The other health benefits of arginine relate to the possible reduction of blood pressure. Arginine may also improve walking distances for those who suffer from intermittent claudication (leg cramps and weakness).

Some studies on arginine have been negative. A study conducted in 2006 showed that arginine might be harmful in treating heart attacks along with standard treatment. As scientific studies on arginine are inconclusive, experts have not made any firm recommendations.

Arginine and herpes

Medical research shows that those who are infected with the herpes simplex virus should avoid arginine supplementation. Studies show that patients susceptible to viral infections and herpetic lesions should avoid taking excess arginine, especially when they are stressed.

A study undertaken at the University of California highlighted the role of arginine in spreading of HSV 1. Additional research confirms that high levels of arginine encourage viral activity. While arginine is stored and processed differently in each individual, the amino acid speeds up the growth of the virus to the rest of the body.

Recommendation: We recommend reducing arginine in your diet and to avoid supplementation. This amino acid can reduce the efficacy of Synergy’s treatment protocol. Supplementing with Lysine is essential to counterbalance arginine levels in individuals who tend to store higher levels of arginine.

Zinc

Zinc is one of the most important nutrients required by the human body. It is stored in various parts of the body, including the red and white blood cells, retina, liver, kidneys, pancreas and bones. For a healthy individual, the amount of zinc produced in the body is enough. But for people who have a nutrient deficiency or are suffering from any illness, consuming zinc as part of their diet or medication can be of immense help. Studies show that 25% of the global population is zinc-deficient, making them very vulnerable to numerous diseases.

Benefits of zinc to the body

Zinc performs two very important activities in the human body:

  • It is responsible for the functioning of numerous hormones and enzymes.
  • It stimulates cell division, cell replication and new tissue production.

Zinc’s greatest contribution to the human body is towards the immune system. Some people are either born with low immunity, or they suffer from reduced immunity due to a previous illness. Consuming zinc helps strengthen the immune system and protects the body from infection, illnesses, and wounds. Zinc does this by stimulating the production and activation of White Blood Cells (WBC) and T lymphocytes (T-cells), which are responsible for immunity.

Zinc also improves the health of the nervous system, ensuring that the organs run perfectly without any problems. Studies also show that low levels of zinc in the blood and the brain are one of the reasons for the early onset of nervous system disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Low levels of zinc can hamper cardiovascular performance, causing hypertension.

Research by MIT chemist Stephen Lippard showed that zinc in the brain is responsible for the formation of memories. It was observed that zinc regulates the communication between the cells in the areas of the hippocampus, which assist with learning and memory formation.

Zinc is also responsible for the active production of Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), a key internal anti-oxidant defence. High levels of SOD heal free radical damage in the body, thereby increasing the individual’s lifespan. SOD also reduces wrinkles, fine lines, and poor texture of the skin.

The role of zinc in the treatment of herpes

Zinc plays a very important role in the treatment of sexually transmitted diseases like herpes.

Research conducted at the University of Illinois shows that ZOTEN, which are zinc-oxide nanoparticles, prevent HSV-2 virus from penetrating the cell walls. Here, ZOTEN provides natural immunity to the human body from herpes.

Zinc has also been found to be an excellent topical medication in the treatment of cold sores. Clinical research has shown that high levels of Zinc Lactate have a 92% success rate in deactivating HSV-2 viruses in the body.

The Unique Amino Formula we provide to treat herpes contains zinc as an important component. Using this product regularly can help alleviate the symptoms of herpes.

Recommended dosage

25-75mg/day of Zinc Picolinate, Acetate, Zinc Lactate, Zinc Gluconate or Zinc Chelate.

Selenium

Selenium is an essential trace mineral that offers a number of metabolic benefits. It helps with cognitive processing and fertility, guards the body against diseases and slows the ageing process.

Benefits of selenium to the body

Selenium is an excellent antioxidant that helps reduce cell damage caused by free radicals in the body. When ingested, selenium reduces oxidative stress and repairs any DNA damage, which if left uncontrolled, could lead to cell mutation and tumour growth. This defends against cancers like colon and prostate cancer. Clinical studies have shown that consuming 200 micrograms of selenium/day reduces the likelihood of men developing prostate cancer by 22%.

Research has also shown that an increase in selenium levels strengthens and boosts the immune system of the body to protect against diseases like hepatitis C, influenza, and tuberculosis.

Selenium is particularly important in maintaining the health of thyroid cells. Low levels of selenium in the thyroid gland lead to an increase in the level of iodine. Too much iodine in the thyroid gland leads to the destruction of healthy thyroid cells. Additionally, selenium stimulates the production of thyroid hormones, which are responsible for the growth and development of the body. Studies also show that selenium consumption is excellent to treat Hashimoto’s disease, a serious thyroid condition.

Selenium and herpes

The human body produces an amino acid called selenomethionine, which contains selenium. It is stored in the skeletal muscles from where it is transported across the body. Usually, the human body has enough selenium and external supplementation is not necessary. However, in the case of sexually transmitted diseases like herpes, it is advisable to take extra doses of selenium to quicken the treatment.

Research shows that ingesting 250 micrograms/day of sodium selenide (an inorganic compound of selenium and sodium) slows down the recurrent outbreaks of herpes in patients. This is true of both genital and oral herpes. Selenium has also been found to alleviate the symptoms of HIV.

How to include selenium in your diet?

Some foods naturally contain high levels of selenium. These include – fish (particularly tuna, sardines, and salmon), oysters, brazil nuts, beans, mushrooms, spinach, poultry, lamb, pork, liver, eggs, yoghurt, couscous and pasta. Consuming these as part of your daily meals can supplement the benefits offered by Synergy’s products.

Recommended dosage

100mcg – 200mcg daily.

Melatonin

Melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) is a hormone that is produced by the pineal gland at the base of the brain. Its primary job is to manage the internal body clock and sleep hormone.

The greatest contribution of melatonin to the human body is the stabilization of the circadian rhythm and the stimulation of sleep.

Benefits of melatonin to the body

Melatonin offers multiple other health benefits. It reduces the oxidative damage caused by free radicals in the body and rectifies immune system deregulation. The hormone reduces internal inflammation and cell damage that occurs due to wounds and diseases. Melatonin is a key mitochondrial regulator, which prevents the onset of numerous diseases, by providing the cell with additional healing properties. Melatonin is also important in stimulating healthy cardiovascular functions in the body.

The melatonin hormone is also very helpful during pregnancy and delivery. The ovaries and the placenta produce melatonin actively during pregnancy. Studies show that melatonin in the amniotic fluid protects the brain and promotes neural development in the fetus. Additionally, along with oxytocin, melatonin stimulates the onset of labor and delivery.

The hormone is important in stimulating anti-excitatory actions in the synapses of the brain. This is why doctors recommend melatonin for patients with Alzheimer’s. Since Alzheimer’s disrupts the sleep cycle in 45% of all cases, consuming a melatonin pill before bed can promote sleep in patients. Similarly, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder-caused insomnia are also treated through melatonin.

Melatonin is also used to alleviate the symptoms of conditions like fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, osteoporosis, PCOS and more. It is also used to treat viral diseases like Ebola, encephalitis, and herpes.

Despite all this, melatonin does suffer from a few disadvantages. The hormone has a very short life and its effects wear-off soon. Additionally, it doesn’t really make the patient fall asleep but is only an indicator of bedtime. This desire to sleep can be overridden by the brain when brain activity is high, and melatonin levels are low. Taking a higher dose of melatonin may help in these cases. Research shows that consuming melatonin pills of higher doses is non-toxic.

Melatonin and herpes

Studies show that herpes results in infection within the body, which leads to the suppression of melatonin production at night. When melatonin levels are low in the body, the immune system is weakened and unable to fight the herpes virus. Taking melatonin supplements can increase melatonin levels in the body and reverse the cellular damage and inflammation caused by herpes.

A study of 67 herpes patients showed that a combination of 2.5mg melatonin and 100mg SB-73 (a magnesium ammonium phospholinoleate anhydride aggregate) reduced the symptoms of HSV 1 and HSV 2 within seven days, in 95.7% of the patients.

Additionally, given its benefits to the immune system, scientists believe that melatonin can be used to treat any virus-caused immune system malfunctioning. Melatonin supplementation can improve the benefits offered by Synergy’s products.

How to increase melatonin levels in the body

Certain foods like bananas, almonds, goji berries, oranges, pineapples, and walnuts contain nutrients, which stimulate the production of melatonin in the body. Additionally, getting enough Vitamin D, either through sunlight or through supplements, can increase melatonin production at night.

Recommended dosage

2mg-12mg for four weeks to improve sleep; 0.3mg-5mg for nine months for full-body wellbeing.

Olive Leaf Extract

Olive Leaf Extract has for long been used in both medicine and cosmetics. It contains a special compound called Oleuropein, which is found only in fresh olive leaves. This compound is very helpful to the human body, and it can be used to treat a wide range of health conditions.

Benefits of oleuropein to the body

Oleuropein is an olive leaf extract, which offers complete body well being. A natural antibiotic and immune-strengthening agent, olive leaf extract is particularly helpful in boosting the body’s immune system. It also contains neuroprotective properties, which maintain the wellbeing of the nervous system. In Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s patients, oleuropein reduces the loss of dopamine neurons and prevents extensive brain damage.

Olive leaf extract is also beneficial for heart health. Studies show that consuming oleuropein capsules or olive oil, can help remove the blockage in the arteries and also lower cholesterol and blood pressure.  There have also been studies to prove that oleuropein increases the secretion of insulin and helps manage Type 2 Diabetes.

Oleuropein also contains polyphenols, which have been found to possess anti-inflammatory and tumor reduction properties. These olive leaf polyphenols also act as anti-oxidants, which treat the free radical damage to the cells.

In addition to this, olive leaf extract has been found to assist in the prevention of onset high-fat, diet-induced obesity by modulating molecule expression. This has offered tremendous weight-loss benefits to obese patients.

At the microbial level, olive leaf extract is believed to destroy various bacterial strains, including Bacillus cereus. The compounds in the oleuropein deactivate the enzymes in the cells, which promote bacterial replication. The compounds also destroy the infected cell’s membrane, making it an ineffective conduit and conductor of the strains.

Hydroxytyrosol, a phytochemical found in olive leaf extract, actively kills bad bacteria in the body and, in turn, strengthens the immune system. Studies also show that this derivative functions as antibiotics for multiple gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial infections. The in-vitro analysis shows how the compound is particularly protective against the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, which is responsible for various diseases like impetigo, lung abscess and scalded skin syndrome.

Olive leaf extract and herpes

Oleuropein is a natural anti-microbial compound that is helpful in combating cold sores, lesions, flu, and other symptoms of bacterial, viral, fungi, and protozoan infections. Experiments have shown that applying 1-2 drops of pure olive leaf extract on a herpes sore reduces the size and toxicity of the sore in days.

Another benefit of olive leaf extract in herpes treatment is the strengthening of the immune system through a biological process called phagocytosis. Herpes outbreaks are more common in people who have compromised immune systems. Oleuropein contains the Oct-2 protein, which boosts the immune system and reduces the strain that the herpes virus has placed on it, during the infection.

Does Oleuropein accelerate Synergy treatment?

Oleuropein contains proteins, which bind the viral strains, surrounding them with an impregnable wall. This layer of proteins prevents the virus from replicating and spreading, and so may ultimately help treat herpes.

However, studies have shown that the protein layer around the cells also reduces the immune system’s ability to pierce through the infected cells to destroy the virus. Hence there is no benefit of olive leaf extract to Synergy’s treatment. Other studies have also shown that olive leaf extract may interfere with lysine absorption and can be counterproductive.

Monolaurin

Monolaurin is a compound derived from lauric acid. Lauric acid is a 12-carbon chain fatty acid, which has the power to kill pathogens in the body. Consuming Monolaurin can make the body stronger and more immune to microbial illnesses.

Benefits of Monolaurin to the body

Compounds in Monolaurin can break down and destroy infections, helping patients recover faster.

In a study of different pathogens, it was found that Monolaurin was able to kill any virus that had a membrane made of lipid. The study showed that Monolaurin was able to solubilise and break down the external membrane of 14 different viruses. When this happened, the compounds in the Monolaurin bound to the lipid-protein virus membrane (outer shell) and deactivated the virus. Once inactive, the virus became completely harmless.

These 14 viruses, which are treatable by Monolaurin, are the pathogens responsible for common human infections. They include – Influenza virus, Human respiratory syncytial virus, Rubeola virus (Measles), Newcastle disease virus, Coronavirus (SARS – Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), Epstein-Barr Virus (Mono), cytomegalovirus (CMV infection and HIV-related opportunistic infections), and Herpes Simplex virus – Types 1 & 2. The study also showed that Monolaurin prevented virus replication by obstructing DNA replication signals from passing between the virus and the host cell. By doing so, Monolaurin strengthened the immune system against the 14 viruses.

In addition, Monolaurin stops the production and transmission of Staphylococcal toxins through the body. These toxins are produced by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus, and they cause various diseases like impetigo, osteomyelitis, pneumonia, endocarditis, and meningitis. Monolaurin also stops the production of beta-lactamases, which is responsible for the body resisting immunisation medication. Increasing the levels of Monolaurin in the body can equip patients with the strong immune system they need to recover faster.

Monolaurin is particularly beneficial for newborns. The compound is naturally present in breast milk and when consumed by babies, boosts their immune systems rapidly.

Monolaurin and herpes

Monolaurin is a non-toxic, anti-viral solution to assist in breaking down HSV 1 and HSV 2 viruses. While there is still less research to understand if Monolaurin can make a substantial difference it certainly can help shorten the infection severity.

How to include Monolaurin in the diet?

48% of coconut milk is made up of Monolaurin-containing lauric acid. So, consuming coconut milk or any of its derivates can increase the levels of monolaurin in the body. Vegetable oils also contain trace amounts of Monolaurin.

Recommended dosage

Start with 600mg-800mg dosage per day and work up to 1000mg per day.

Oregano Oil

Oregano is a herb that is used by millions of people around the world. While the dried leaves are a condiment, the oil extracted from the oregano plant (Origanum Vulgare) is a medicine. Studies show that the oil of oregano can protect the body against bacterial infections like cholera, typhoid and cold sores. In fact, it was the ancient Grecian’s who first recognized the antibacterial and disinfectant properties of oregano oil. They would use it in food and on wounds to kill bacteria.

Benefits of oregano oil to the body

Oregano oil contains thymol and carvacrol – two important chemicals, which have the ability to lower bad LDL cholesterol while increasing the level of good HDL cholesterol. Scientists believe this may improve cardiac health and offer weight-loss benefits in the long run. Research also shows that oregano oil has cancer inhibiting properties.

Studies indicate that oregano contains up to 30 times higher number of antioxidants compared to other plants. Rosmarinic acid, a chemical in the oil, is a very strong antioxidant. It helps heal the damage caused by free radicals to cells.

Oil of oregano is observed to improve gut health. In a study of 14 people, daily consumption of 600mg of oregano oil for six weeks resulted in 77% of the respondents being completely cured of gut parasites. Doctors believe oregano oil can prevent leaky gut syndrome.

Oregano oil is an excellent remedy for cold and flu. It eliminates the build-up of phlegm and mucus in the respiratory tract and the sinus. It also possesses anti-inflammation and pain relief properties. This is particularly beneficial in treating cold-caused lung and throat inflammation. In fact, oregano oil has been found helpful in treating a wide range of respiratory illnesses. In addition to internal inflammation, oregano oil can also reduce external inflammation, skin irritation and redness.

Oregano oil and herpes

In a study published in the Medical Science Research, oregano oil was found to have the ability to deactivate the HSV virus membrane. Carvacrol in the oregano oil contains a chemical called origanum heracleoticum L, which has antiviral and antibacterial properties. Enriched by this chemical, carvacrol has the ability to break down the lipid membrane of the herpes simplex virus (thereby deactivating the virus).

However, it is important to note that this was only a petri-dish experiment and it hasn’t been verified on humans. There is also no clarity about whether the human body would respond the same way if oregano oil were used for herpes treatment. Additionally, there is little evidence to prove if oregano oil can be easily circulated in the body or not and how well it can reach the specific infection site.

Can everyone include oregano oil in the diet?

People with sensitive gut and skin have reported experiencing gastrointestinal distress, nausea, diarrhoea, and skin irritation after using oregano oil. There is also a possibility of liver damage with serious health consequences if too much oregano oil is used. Additionally, there have been very few studies on the impact of oregano oil on pregnant and breastfeeding women.

It is best if people with weak physiologies and expecting mothers avoid oregano oil. People with weak hearts should also steer clear of consuming oregano oil, as it can cause heart palpitations and trigger anxiety attacks, that may affect the heart.

Recommendation: Synergy Pharmaceuticals does not recommend oregano oil due to the above-mentioned risks.

If you choose to consume oregano oil, please wait four hours before taking Synergy products. Lab experiments have shown oregano oil, if ingested directly, prevents the active absorption of the Synergy medication and interferes with the performance of the product. The topical application does not result in any interference and can be used with the Synergy product.

Usage directions

Oregano oil can affect very sensitive skin and constitution. It is important to use it correctly. Oregano oil does not dissolve in the bloodstream directly. Always mix it with another carrier oil, like coconut oil.

  • Dilute a few drops of oregano oil with a carrier oil, then apply directly to sores and lesions.
  • Add 4-6 drops to a 4oz glass of water/fresh juice (no carbonated drinks). Before you drink this, apply coconut oil to your lips. Do this up to 10 times in a day.
  • Apply 1-4 drops of oregano-coconut oil mixture under the tongue for one minute. Flush it down with a glass of water. Repeat 4-5 times a day.
  • Capsules must be consumed according to a physician’s instructions.
  • If using topically, take a handful of carrier oil and mix into it three drops of oregano oil. Rub this at the base of your spine (2-4 inches wide radius), until you feel the muscles relax. Do this morning and night.
